Welcome and Introduction to New Instructor Workshop - Dr. Cigdem V. Sirin


Dr. Cigdem V. Sirin is an Associate Professor of Political Science at UTEP. She received her doctoral degree from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Sirin's main areas of interest are international relations and political psychology. More specifically, her research centers on examining the microfoundations of interstate and intrastate conflict processes and outcomes. Her publications include articles in Journal of Politics, Political Psychology, International Studies QuarterlyInternational Political Science ReviewActa PoliticaArmed Forces & Society, and numerous other venues. She also has a book (co-authored with Nick Valentino and José Villalobos) entitled Seeing Us in Them: Social Divisions and the Politics of Group Empathy, forthcoming in Cambridge University Press.

Dr. Sirin is a recipient of the University of Texas System Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award and an inaugural member of UTEP's Academic of Distinguished Teachers.

She currently serves as the Director of the Center for Faculty Leadership and Development (CFLD) and coordinates UTEP’s Support for Online Learning. She also serves as the Director of Graduate Studies in Political Science.
